To Do: Make Sure Cellphone Is Working

Does anyone else every check their phone to make sure it is working sometimes because you haven't been receiving any messages?

I do.

I feel like a loser.

Nope. It IS working. Just no one is wanting to talk to me.

Happy Memorial Day!

I spent Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery (again).

There is no better way to celebrate and remember those who served.

Again, I cried like a baby.

I stuff those frickin' bags every week.

Now Obama made it cool.

To Do: Listen

I have this song stuck in my head. Good summer song.

To Do: Go To The Beach

Solomons Island Sunset 3, originally uploaded by driko.

So its Memorial Day weekend and its like a sin if you don't go to the beach.

So I did.

While volunteering with the USO way out at St. Inigoes, MD for the US Coast Guard I fell in love with the area. Plus, I wanted to check out Solomon Island.

So I got a group of random friends together and we hopped in the car and drove out there. And it only took about 1 hour and all you do is take Penn. Ave/ Route 4 all the way. So easy.

If you go, try and go to the Navy Rec Center. Pools, Mini Golf, Beach, Kayaking. Amazing.

To Do: Mate

So Little Z and I were out walking/exercising today.

This normally starts with a trip to 7/11 to get slurpees. (mine ONLY banana and pina colada, Z with a little taste of every flavor)

It also consists of a lot of gossip and chatting about life.

Today we were discussing the perfect guy for me.

>>>side note: does anyone remember those games you play as a kid where each person adds something new to the list. like I am going to the zoo and I am going to bring a banana. then I am going to the zoo and I am going to bring a banana and a cactus...etc.

back to the point. this is pretty much how we have created the perfect guy in our heads.

"He must be Mormon. He must be Mormon and a Marine. He must be a Mormon, Marine with a boat...etc."

Anyhow, Little Z says to me today.
"I am normally totally against this. You know. But I think that you should join eHarmony so that you can narrow your search. You could literally type in the perfect man for you."

That's about when I realized that I may be putting too much into this. :)

aww, The Dude loved banana slurpees too. :(

Accessory of the Day:

I love this J-Crew gold belt. I really want it.

I have been wearing a lot of neutral colors lately. I really realized this when I was headed into the dressing room the other day at Forever21 and I was checking out what the girl in front of me was trying on. It was a disaster. She was a disaster. Horrible choices in every color of the rainbow. Then I asked myself, "why the heck to people wear color!?!"

Like its not normal or something.

I am so weird.

Then I looked down at what I was taking into the dressing room. 6 things. all white or cream.

How lame am I!?!

Big difference from my White House attire.
Work me: Black and White
Unemployed me: tan and white.

Point is, I think that this gold belt would be really cute with both b&w and my current neutral palate.

Umm, just thinking over about every other Accessory of the Day that I have posted and...yup...pretty much all gold. Haha.

Stay classy.

Things To Learn

- Say what I mean.

- Mean what I say.

These two things are something that I am really trying to learn right now. They sound similar but they are so different. Think about it.

Movie Review:

I just finished watching (and crying my eyes out to) Seven Pounds with Will Smith.

What a great movie about giving. It reminded me a bit of the Giving Tree

So sweet!

Well, it inspired me to go and give blood tomorrow.

You should too!

Accessory of the Day:

I think that it could be pulled off by itself as classy or mixed with some other pieces for an edgy look.

Urgh!

I just got home.

It is late.

I was hungry.

I ate a left-over piece of 3-day old jumbo slice pizza.

...

i feel ill.

To Do: Become a Professional Volunteer

Hello there.

I volunteer here about once a week...

This is what I do...

This is why I do it...

But that isn't the point of this post.

Here is the point.

I HATE THIS ONE LADY!!! There is this mean, young, ugly, Air Force gal that I hate and she torments me every time I volunteer there!!! And she is always there. We shall call her Pat.

Incident 1: We brought my friend Dustin. He told Pat that my friend, Little Z and I volunteer because we were looking for military husbands. And that we no longer have jobs since 01/20/09. Later that day she comes up to Little Z and without saying hello says, "I hear you are a barracks brat."

Incident 2: Days later, we are volunteering again making special clothing care packages for wounded soldiers. It was a fancier event so Little Z and I wore nicer outfits than our usual jeans or sweats. She comes up to us and says "Wow, I almost didn't recognize you girls without your jammies on."

Incident 3: We manage to avoid her for most of the night. We did make a friend who is a young, nice guy who is stationed at Bolling AFB right near us. We are just chatting with him as we are checking out and leaving. Then it happens. She appears. She walks up next to us and says while looking at this other guys she is friends with, "Oh look, its my favorite two White House girls. Do you all have jobs yet?" Then she looks at our new friend "You a Marine too?" He says no and that he is in the Air Force. Her reply: "Wow, you are too young and strong to be in the Air Force."

Urgh. I just hate this lady. I just do. Urgh!!

Come out and help!

Here is where Ill be this week:

May 13th - 9-1pm
May 14th - 7-1pm

Accessory of the Day:

I think that these J-Crew belts are so cute.

Today I wore a heather gray American Apparel Deep V-Neck shirt and a white skirt and I just wished that I owned a cute little belt like this to complete my outfit.

Oh well, maybe you can buy it and wear it instead. :)

Happy Mother's Day again!

Happy Mother's Day Madre

Here is to you Mom:

even though you STILL don't read my blog.

even though you mail me packages with your old nylons from the 80's.

even though you just spent a fortune on goat cheese to mail to Saucy Apron and then realized that it would never make it from AZ to DC without spoiling.

even though you brag about spending a whole $5 on a Coach purse at the local thrift store.

even though you still don't understand my personal style.

even though you started referring to yourself as "mama."

even though every time you call me I am worried that it is because I have a parking ticket. :)

even though you live on the other side of the country and I really miss you. a lot.

but I love you more because of these things. thank you for making me who I am today.

i love you. a lot.

To Do: National Harbor

So, The Dude and I checked out National Harbor on Sunday.

It was pretty fun. But... it was raining. the. whole. time.

Oh well, it was something that I have always wanted to do. And we did! It was really neat!

If you are in DC I would say that it would be a neat place to go on a summer date night.

Oh, and The Awakening is there now too! Check it out!!

To Do: Read

I love GQ

Actually I love all men's magazines. GQ. Details. Esquire. Men's Vogue.

All of them.

Check out this article on the war in Afghanistan. I thought it was really interesting.

To Do: Eat

SaucyApron turned me on to clementines.

I love them so much.

I throw 2-3 in my purse in the morning and they are great through out the day.

I suggest buying them at Trader Joe's if you can. There they are only like $3 for a bag of them or $6 for a box.

AM-azing.

To Do: Watch

To Do: Fall In Love

I have never met something Kate Spade that I didn't love.

Plus, we both went to ASU. (Did you know what about Kate?)

To Do: Get A J.O.B.

Anyone want to buy this book for me?

I need a j.o.b. :)

To Do: Twitter

I think that I only use my twitter account...

(please add me. see the little button over on the left? <---)

...to see what funny/smart ass things John Mayer has to say that day.

How lame am I!?!

Accessory of the Day:

So, I don't know if its because SaucyApron told me to do it. Or if maybe I am just short on cash and love to post about shopping. Or maybe I just love to accessorize everything (including my workout outfits) but I have decided to do a post about one accessory a day.

This one for starters. I love big, funky rings. I think this pearl bubble ring from J-Crew is a fun piece to add to your wardrobe. :)

Wanted: Camo Tote

I want one of these LL Bean Camo Totes.

I never thought about them as a cute accessory until I saw the always classy and fashionable Eddie Ross using one.

Let's all buy one and get them monogramed. :)

To Do: Get Dressed

I live in these American Apparel Deep V-Neck T-Shirts. Not kidding. Its either these or $6 Wal-Mart camis in black or white.

I have them in black, white, gray, and dark gray. (Oh, yeah, I don't wear color.)

Anyhow, they are such a good cut and they are easy to accessorize. I can wear them to work out and still feel feminine or I can wear them out with some accessories. I love them.

Cinco de Mayo

The Pinata-The Boy, Michoacan, originally uploaded by zocalo2010.

(shhh... I know I am posting this on May 6th, give me a break please.)

I love Cinco de Mayo. It may be one of my favorite holidays. Well, right after the 4th of July. That's my favorite holiday!

Anyhow, I am from Arizona, right. And Cinco de Mayo is a huge deal out there!! (Not so much here in DC, btw.)

I should have thrown a grand party at my place with a pinata and all. I love pinatas. I used to get authentic ones for my birthday every year in South Phoenix.

But, I didn't throw a party. Not at all.

I started my sober night at an Irish bar. Lame. I know.

Then, (and I don't know how) I met up with like 12 Marines that I know and went bar hopping with them in Georgetown.

(Note to self: Marines like to drink. You don't drink. Marines like to fight. You feel uncomfortable/responsible when people fight. Not a great mix!!)

Ohh, I just love Cinco though.

My favorite Cinco de Mayo was spent at Garduno's in Chandler, AZ with two great friends drinking margaritas and chips and salsa all afternoon. Mmmm, a virgin coconut margarita with honey and toasted coconut around the rim. Mmmm.

***Check out this party idea from You Are My Fave.

To Do: Laugh and Clean

(taken my me at Hains Point)

Two things have been running through my mind lately.

"We plan and God laughs."
Since I had made plans in my head to keep this whole week open so that I can lay out at Hains Point and read in the sun. So what happens? It rains. All. Week.

The other... comes from Eat, Pray, Love

"Saint Anthony once wrote about having gone into the desert on silent retreat and being assaulted by all manner of visions-- devils and angels, both. He said, in his solitude, he sometimes encountered devils who looked like angels, and other times he found angels who looked like devils. When asked how he could tell the difference, the saint said that you can only tell which is which by the way that you feel after the creature has left your company. If you are appalled, he said, then it was a devil who just visited you. If you feel lightened, it was an angel."

Isn't that a need thought. I started to adapt this to the relationships in  my own life. Who leaves me feeling better and who leaves me feeling worse. Can you talk about some Spring Cleaning....
