To Do: Leather

image via 100discounts.com, that should tell you something.

First off, I can't even say the word "leather" with out thinking of Stella and her fave "leatha."

Okay, as I mentioned (here) I just started "hanging out" with a new guy.

I kinda like him.

BUT...

he wears a leather jacket. Gag.

I don't think that there is ever really a good excuse for a leather jacket. (Well, maybe this one.)

But let's remember... I live in Washington, DC. The capitol of the sneaker/nylon wearing world and as I wandered the streets today thinking about my boy and his leather jacket I started to notice that the streets were plaqued with tacky leather jackets.

This might be one of my deal-breakers.

BUT...

He gets points though, I mean, since he is a Marine. And that's just hot.

Natalie, you are so smart. I wish I were more like you!!

check out her relationship equation...

if you like me= x

i should* like you = x - 1

I think I need to get on that boat. I am in the midst of a new relationship/thing and I think I like him more than I should*!!

Thank you Strapless Living for giving me the strength to come out with this...

I LOVE SONS OF ANARCHY!!!

Like hardcore.

Sometimes I feel like a dirty, biker chick when I watch it too.
(Except that I am terrified of motorcycles, I don't smoke or drink, and I keep my legs closed. But other than that I could totally be a regular on the show!!)

My lovely little nugget T got me hooked on this show when I spent time with him in Arizona. And since we are talking about him, I should mention that I love him. A lot.

I tell everyone that I just want to marry a Mormon/Marine. Well, my lovely little nugget is already Mormon... and he just told me the other day that he is enlisting in the Marine Corps.

I couldn't be happier for him!!!

To Do: Iraq

I want to go to Iraq. I want to do this more than anything else I have ever wanted in my life.

I have supported our efforts in Iraq since we first went in. I truly believe that what we are doing there is good and that we can't leave until we are finished. I believe that we need to make sure that the country is stable before we make any changes.

and I want to help.

I feel obligated to go - to see the good, the bad and the ugly. War is not pretty. I know that. But I feel this is something that I need to do.

I am looking at a couple different routes to get over there. Either as support for our troops or with the reconstruction team.

I figure that I am young, single and have no commitments right now. I feel that the timing is perfect for me and that I just need to do it.

I dont think that I am invincible. I have seen what can happen to people over there. But I have a lot of faith in the Lord and I believe that my day is my day. I will die on the same day whether I am in Iraq or driving to a desk job that I hate - my day is my day.

I just want to jump out there and do something completely out of the norm for me.

I want to give up my heels for a bit and get my hands dirty...

Today I Pray...

that I will be a good mother someday.
that I will find the man of my dreams someday.
that I will make good career choices.
that I can help others throughout my lifetime.
that I will be a fun grandmother someday.
that I can be a good wife - and always be a wife first.
that I can continue to live out my dreams/goals.
that I can be a good example of my church.
that our soldiers are safe all over the world.
that I can travel the world.
that I can do good works where ever I go.
that I live a healthy life.
that I will have happy children who make good decisions.
that my future husband (where ever he may be) will have a good day tomorrow.
that our new President stays safe and helps our country.
that I will continue to laugh. even at myself.
that that I have the strength and wisdom to make good choices.
that my Heavenly Father continues to watch over me.
that I will always be happy.

I am M.I.A.

not that MIA, silly.

Missing In Action.

Sorry. I have been pretty busy this last week.

A dear friend from high school came out to visit me this week from Las Vegas. I had to do it right and show her all around the District of Columbia!

It was great. We went up to the top of the Washington Monument and I haven't done that since I was a little kiddo.

Anyhow, remember that meeting I was talking about...?

Here is a little picture of it. And remember that friend of mine? That's him.

Since We Last Spoke:

I was kissed by the President here.

I was almost mugged/car-jacked by three scary dudes.

Barney bit a reporter.

Found a country on a map. and this little guy too.

I saw a guy commuting to work on a big ol' circus bike with an Obama sign.

I decided that I want to go work in Iraq. (My theory, If you support it, you should see it.)

Holister Hovey - for her fabulous British Colonial eBay purchases, musings on vintage style and love of all things taxidermy ...

no pictures today. sorry, i suck!

I want everyone to know that deep within all my emotions today...

I am proud.

I am proud of our citizens - our country is great because of us, not just our government.

I am proud to see our great nation elect the First African-American President. I am proud to see a man achieve his dream - the American dream. I am proud to be a part of history.

I am proud of John McCain for fighting a good fight.

I am proud of our soldiers. I am proud of all that they do all over the world. I am proud of their sacrifices. I am proud of all the good that they have done and the battles they have fought for us.

I am proud of President Bush. I am proud that he has stood up for what he believes in. I am proud to work for him.

I am proud to be an American. I am proud to know that we can cast our vote and participate in our amazing government.

Thank You John McCain!

I cried last night. I am a native Arizonan and long supporter of John McCain.

I believe he gave a good fight and did it for the greater good. For that, I thank him.

What a wonderful speech he gave last night too:

"Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Arizona evening. My friends, we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly."

"A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him. To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love. In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving. This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight."

"I've always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Senator Obama believes that, too. But we both recognize that, though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation's reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still had the power to wound."

"A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt's invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine at the White House was taken as an outrage in many quarters. America today is a world away from the cruel and frightful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African-American to the presidency of the United States."

"Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth. Senator Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country. I applaud him for it, and offer him my sincere sympathy that his beloved grandmother did not live to see this day. Though our faith assures us she is at rest in the presence of her creator and so very proud of the good man she helped raise."

"Senator Obama and I have had and argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt many of those differences remain. These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the
many challenges we face. I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited."

"Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that. It's natural, tonight, to feel some disappointment. But tomorrow, we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. We fought - we fought as hard as we could. And though we feel short, the failure is mine, not yours."

"I am so deeply grateful to all of you for the great honor of your support and for all you have done for me. I wish the outcome had been different, my friends. The road was a difficult one from the outset, but your support and friendship never wavered. I cannot adequately express how deeply indebted I am to you."

"I'm especially grateful to my wife, Cindy, my children, my dear mother and all my family, and to the many old and dear friends who have stood by my side through the many ups and downs of this long campaign. I have always been a fortunate man, and never more so for the love and encouragement you have given me. You know, campaigns are often harder on a candidate's family than on the candidate, and that's been true in this campaign. All I can offer in compensation is my love and gratitude and the promise of more peaceful years ahead."

"I am also, of course, very thankful to Governor Sarah Palin, one of the best campaigners I have ever seen, and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength... her husband Todd and their five beautiful children... for their tireless dedication to our cause, and the courage and grace they showed in the rough and tumble of a presidential campaign. We can all look forward with great interest to her future service to Alaska, the Republican Party and our country."

"To all my campaign comrades, from Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter, to every last volunteer who fought so hard and valiantly, month after month, in what at times seemed to be the most challenged campaign in modern times, thank you so much. A lost election will never mean more to me than the privilege of your faith and friendship."

"I don't know what more we could have done to try to win this election. I'll leave that to others to determine. Every candidate makes mistakes, and I'm sure I made my share of them. But I won't spend a moment of the future regretting what might have been."

"This campaign was and will remain the great honor of my life, and my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude for the experience and to the American people for giving me a fair hearing before deciding that Senator Obama and my old friend Senator Joe Biden should have the honor of leading us for the next four years."

"I would not be an American worthy of the name should I regret a fate that has allowed me the extraordinary privilege of serving this country for a half a century. Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much. And tonight, I remain her servant. That is blessing enough for anyone, and I thank the people of Arizona for it."

"Tonight, more than any night, I hold in my heart nothing but love for this country and for all its citizens, whether they supported me or Senator Obama - I wish Godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president. And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties, but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here."

"Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history. Thank you, and God bless you, and God bless America. Thank you all very much."

To Do: Read The Morning News

President Bush Congratulates President-Elect Barack Obama, Says "I Promise To Make This A Smooth Transition." "President Bush on Tuesday night called President-elect Barack Obama to congratulate him on what he deemed an 'awesome' win. … 'What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters,' Mr. Bush told Mr. Obama, speaking to him from the White House Treaty Room, in the residence. 'Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride.' 'I promise to make this a smooth transition,' Mr. Bush said. 'You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself.' Mr. Bush invited Mr. Obama and the next first lady, Michelle Obama, to visit the White House with their two daughters soon. At 11:38 p.m., Mr. Bush called Mr. McCain, who had conceded defeat earlier in the evening. 'John, you gave it your all. I'm proud of you, and I'm sorry it didn't work out,' Mr. Bush told him. 'You didn't leave anything on the playing field.' The president told Mr. McCain that his concession speech was 'fabulous and very classy.' 'Please give our love to Cindy,' Mr. Bush said. Mr. Bush spent the early evening at the White House celebrating his wife's 62nd birthday and watching election results with a small group of friends." (Jon Ward, "Bush Tells Obama His Win Was 'Awesome'," The Washington Times, 11/5/08)

The Washington Post's Michael Gerson Says "I Have Seen President Bush Show More Loyalty Than He Has Been Given, More Generosity Than He Has Received." "The achievement is historic. … Because of the passage of Medicare Part D, nearly 10 million low-income seniors are receiving prescription drugs at little or no cost. No Child Left Behind education reform has helped raise the average reading scores of fourth-graders to their highest level in 15 years, and narrowed the achievement gap between white and African American children. The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief has helped provide treatment for more than 1.7 million people and compassionate care for at least 2.7 million orphans and vulnerable children. And the decision to pursue the surge in Iraq will be studied as a model of presidential leadership. … I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency – a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential." (Michael Gerson, Op-Ed, "The Decency Of George W. Bush," The Washington Post, 11/4/08)
